The Two-Fold Promise You Need: From Abraham to Paul

What must a person believe to inherit the promises of Abraham?

"For all the promises of God find their Yes in him." (2 Corinthians 1:20)

Review Last Week…

-Polemic…God Said let there be light..sun..moon..stars…

And I will make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly.

As for me, behold, my covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be a father of many nations.

Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee.

And I will make thee exceeding fruitful, and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee.

And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee.

And I will give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee... all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God. - Genesis 17:2, 4–8 (KJV)

-God is going to use two scenes to show us his character in contrast to the false gods…. Sodom and Gomorrah and Mount Moriah

  1. Sodom and Gomorrah: The Wrath of God

Because grace had transformed him….remember Hagar and Ishamel was Cannanite false god worship, more than an affair, relying on our way…and He was only Righteous because of believing in God’s promise…

"And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness." - Genesis 15:6 (KJV)

This is where we pick up the story

  • 50 righteous (Genesis 18:24)
  • 45 righteous (Genesis 18:28)
  • 40 righteous (Genesis 18:29)
  • 30 righteous (Genesis 18:30)
  • 20 righteous (Genesis 18:31)
  • 10 righteous (Genesis 18:32)

Why is Abraham Pleading…He knows the mercy of God.  Abraham worshipped these Gods…Inan, Baal, Molech…

But…because of God is is now Abraham, and Sarah

The wrath that fell upon Sodom reminds us that God's judgment is real. Sodom worships Molech.

We judge them…but I just see us…my abortion story…the story of Molech and Ishtar…

So insanity prevails in culture as sin begets sin, and God found none righteous, not even one….

"You have heard that it was said to those of old, 'You shall not murder; and whoever murders will be liable to judgment.' But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment..." - Matthew 5:21–22 (ESV)

"You have heard that it was said, 'You shall not commit adultery.' But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart."  - Matthew 5:27–28 (ESV)

When I look at Sodom and Gomorrah I just see myself, and when I look at Abraham pleading for us, I see Jesus…

"My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous." 1 John 2:1 (ESV)

Here is what happens "There is none righteous, no, not one." (Romans 3:10)

This is the rich young ruler, and the Pharisee…no one can escape…

God burns it all, it should be Abraham, he only saves lot because of Abraham…This place is still there…

"And it came to pass, when God destroyed the cities of the plain, that God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when he overthrew the cities in the which Lot dwelt." - Genesis 19:29 (KJV)

  1. Mount Moriah Reveals the Gospel

-my sons to war, my dad to war, your job, your kids, my wife, EVERYTHING FLOWS FROM THIS PROMISE…
