SERMON OUTLINE
Leadership matters because people need direction, encouragement, and truth.
Spiritual gifts are given for the common good, not personal greatness. — 1 Corinthians 12:7
“A threefold cord is not quickly broken.” — Ecclesiastes 4:12
ADMINISTRATION / GOVERNMENT
The gift that steers the ship through the storm.
KJV: governments
ESV: administrating
NIV: guidance
CSB: leading
This is not just paperwork. This is the helmsman gift — the one at the wheel, the one who sees the storm, the one who helps steer the ship. — 1 Corinthians 12:28
Paul had a plan, but the Spirit redirected him to Macedonia. Spiritual leadership is not just having a plan; it is being sensitive enough to God to change the plan. — Acts 16:6-10
Michael Burry saw the crack in the foundation while everyone else was admiring the building. That is the helmsman gift — seeing the storm before the ship starts sinking.
Where there is no guidance, a people falls; in many counselors there is safety. — Proverbs 11:14
By wise guidance you can wage your war, and in abundance of counselors there is victory. — Proverbs 24:6
A leader must manage his own household well; if he cannot care for his household, how will he care for God’s church? — 1 Timothy 3:4-5
EXHORTATION
The gift that strengthens.
This is more than saying, “Good job.” This is coming alongside someone in the fight and strengthening their hand in God. — Romans 12:8
Jonathan strengthened David. He had every reason to be jealous, but instead he gave up position, pride, and claim to the throne. He walked into David’s wilderness and reminded him who God called him to be. — 1 Samuel 18:3-4; 1 Samuel 23:16-17
The commander may tell you where to go, but the exhorter gets in the fight with you and says, “Do not quit. God is not done. I still see the calling on your life.”
Exhort one another every day, as long as it is called today. — Hebrews 3:13
Encourage one another and build one another up. — 1 Thessalonians 5:11
Admonish the idle, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with them all. — 1 Thessalonians 5:14
Stir one another up to love and good works, encouraging one another. — Hebrews 10:24-25
TEACHING
The gift you do not want lightly.
The Bible says to earnestly desire spiritual gifts, but it also says not many should become teachers, because teachers will receive stricter judgment. — 1 Corinthians 14:1; James 3:1
Teaching is not the right to say whatever you think. Teaching is the responsibility to say what God has said. — 2 Timothy 2:15
We speak where the Bible speaks, and we are silent where the Bible is silent.
We do not make laws God did not make.
We do not bind burdens Jesus did not bind.
We do not turn our conclusions into commandments.
We do not make our tradition equal to the Word of God. — Matthew 15:9
Teaching is not only an office. It is a gift. God uses men and women to teach, disciple, proclaim, correct, and strengthen others in truth. — Romans 12:7; Colossians 3:16; Acts 18:26; Titus 2:3-5
